He uses hi-tech technology like 3D computer models to visualise designs that are too minute for naked eye. He says that he was deeply fascinated by titanium’s featherweight properties and pliability. In his designs, he uses titanium with precious gemstones.

It is most famous designs are the Titanium Diamond and Tsavorite Bonsai brooch and Mertens’ pair of Tanzanite and Diamond . This pair of cuffs displays 69 diamond carats and 15 tanzanite carats. Mertens maintains “It is an endless battle to reach perfection”, Its not surprising that his client list includes European royalty!
